Assembling the hammock chair

After many hours of searching and comparing different models and colors, you have finally decided to buy your dream hammock chair, the courier has delivered the parcel and you are excitedly unpacking it, all the time thinking that in just a few minutes you will sit down and relax for the first time in "something like this". Unfortunately, your good mood is suddenly interrupted by the fact that there is nothing attached to the chair with which you can hang it, the only thing you have is the ceiling. And then there's the chair. Unfortunately, the vast majority of manufacturers of hammock and hanging chairs do not offer them complete with mounting elements, which must be purchased separately. If you find yourself in such a situation and you really want to hang the chair today, there is only one way out, sit on the seat in the car and drive to the nearest DIY store.

What to look for there? You will need a so-called swing hook, a polypropylene rope and possibly a carabiner.

A swing hook costs about 3 €, if there is a choice, it is best to choose the largest possible.

A braided polyester rope costs around 1 to 2 € per meter, if your room does not exceed the standard height, 2 meters plus 1 meter is enough to be sure and not to ride twice, if the rope turns out to be too long, you can easily shorten it with a wallpaper knife, it is good to protect the end of the rope from fraying by carefully burning it with a lighter. The rope should be between 8 and 12 mm in diameter, 10 mm will be best.

You have to pay about 2 € for a carabiner, they are used in construction and mountain climbing, the most suitable is one with a length of 9-10 cm. It is not required to hang the hammock chair, but if you don't want to untie the rope or climb the ladder and unhook it from the hook every time you want to remove the chair, it will certainly come in handy.

A drill (preferably with a pneumatic hammer) costs a minimum of 80 € :) So if you don't have one, call your friends and family, someone will surely borrow it.

All of the above-mentioned elements are usually available in every large supermarket.

What is the downside of such a complete mounting kit? Unfortunately, supermarkets often do not specify the durability of these elements and do not have visible certificates, so if the chair is to be used by a child, please think twice, it may be worth holding off on installation for a few days and buying an attested set dedicated by the manufacturer.

If you already have all the elements, it's time to start assembling the chair! A very important issue is to precisely determine the space in the room where the chair will be suspended. Given that it can be rocked, you need to keep a proper distance from the walls and furniture. Before you start drilling, it is a good idea to put the hook with the suspended chair to the ceiling with the help of another person and precisely determine the place where the hook will be screwed in, this will avoid puttying and patching unnecessary holes. Now all you have to do is climb the ladder and drill a hole, remember to choose the right drill diameter, which must perfectly match the diameter of the hook expansion sleeve. If there is already a hole in the ceiling, the next step is to insert the T-shirt into it (you can gently hammer it in) and screw in the hook, it is best to use a screwdriver for this by inserting it into the eyelet perpendicular to the thread. All that remains is to tie the rope properly, you can tie it to form a circle to be sure, then the chair will be suspended on a double rope. Below is an example of tying a knot.

Now all you have to do is insert one end of the rope into the eyelet of the hook and the other end into the rifle, which is attached to the closed loop or metal eyelet (depending on the model) located in the chair. If you want to hang the chair on a wooden ceiling, the procedure is identical, with the difference that the hook must be designed for installation in wood.

And that's it! You can now sit comfortably in your chair and rest after a hard 20-minute work.
