How to hang a hammock?

When choosing a hammock, many of you focus first on its size, color and purpose. After making the right decision, you decide to buy, add the selected hammock to the cart and suddenly you realize that you have to hang it somehow, you refrain from buying it and wonder how to do it and what accessories you will need for it. If you make a purchase during our store's opening hours, feel free to call us, we will be happy to help you :) The problem arises if you can only find time for shopping in the evening or at night, and the next day until noon work does not allow you to make phone calls. That's why we've decided to give you some tips and present ready-made solutions, we hope that this post will be helpful.

The most important thing will be to choose the right length of the hammock, it is important to make a decision about the place of hanging and measure the distance between the points where the attachments will be located before buying. Below, we will present simple formulas that you can easily use to calculate the area and height required for suspension. Depending on the type of hammock, these designs will vary.

Classic hammocks:

The minimum distance between the suspension points (walls, trees, beams, etc.) can be calculated by subtracting 10% from the total length of the hammock. For example, if the hammock has a total length of 400 cm, the minimum width between the points should be 360 cm (400 - 10% = 360).

The height of the suspension can be easily determined using the formula y=x/2, where y is the height and the length of the suspension. For example, if the distance between walls or trees is 400 cm, the height at which the hammock should be hung is 200 cm, which is half the length.

The hanging angle should be about 30 degrees.

Hammock with spreader:

The minimum distance between the attachment points is the same as the total length of the hammock.

On the other hand, the height of the suspension can be calculated using the formula y=x/4, where y is the height and x is the length. If the length between the walls or trees is 400 cm, then you should hang the hammock at a height of 1 meter.

The hanging angle should be between 15 and 20 degrees.

In both cases, remember that the hammock should be about 30 cm above the ground when you enter it. From the formulas given above, it is possible to calculate the minimum values, if there is such a possibility, a greater distance / length of the fastening should be used, which will ensure greater adjustability.

Hanging a hammock in a house or apartment

Analysing the sales of indoor installation kits, we noticed that more and more people decide to hang this exotic piece of furniture in the living room, bedroom and children's room. The so-called chill rooms in workplaces, hotels and public spaces are becoming more and more popular. In such places, solid walls are the most important. Solid concrete seems to be ideal, because in it the wall plug will have adequate compressive strength over the entire surface. A brick can already be a small challenge, if you hit the joint with a drill bit, you will not do without mounting adhesives or drilling a new hole in a different place. It is also possible to install wood walls, but you have to judge its hardness, type and thickness yourself, not every wood will be suitable for screwing. Before choosing the right mounting kit, you should find out what material the walls are made of. The store offers several assembly kits, a list of them with their purpose can be found at the bottom of the page. During installation, you will need a drill along with drill bits (preferably with a pneumatic hammer), a hammer, a screwdriver and a tape measure. Depending on the make and model of the kit, the attachment of the elements to the wall may vary slightly, each kit includes the corresponding text or drawing instructions. Before you start drilling, it's a good idea to try on the hammock with the mounting hardware attached to it with the help of another person, this way you can avoid mistakes and patching unnecessary holes in the wall. Remember to leave a small supply of rope, each hammock can stretch by up to 15% after a longer period of use.

Hanging a hammock on a terrace or patio

The installation in these places will be the same as in the case of an apartment. However, it is very often necessary to purchase two different sets of fasteners, for example when the hammock is attached to the external wall on one side and to the structural beam on the other. In this case, planning the place itself can be more of a challenge due to limited space or the lack of sufficiently strong structures. If it is not possible to attach a hammock, we suggest you consider buying a hammock chair, which takes up much less space and you only need one point in the ceiling to hang it. If your terrace or patio does not protect its surface from rain and sun, we suggest buying a hammock made of a material that is resistant to these factors.

Mounting the hammock on the balcony

On the balcony, the installation will also be carried out in a similar way as on the terrace and at home, depending on the structure. Balconies are usually not large and choosing the right size hammock can sometimes be difficult. In the case of balconies in flats made of large slabs from the 80s, the problem is too small width, and the façade makes it even smaller, and drilling through a thick layer of polystyrene to the concrete can be troublesome. The best conditions for hanging a hammock are on larger balconies with a fairly high balustrade, just two ropes and you're done, without drilling and damaging the façade. However, if you don't have enough space on your balcony, we recommend buying a hanging hammock, which is smaller but just as comfortable.

Hanging a hammock in the garden

If you have your own house with a garden, a hammock will certainly play a major role in it. It is a good idea to place it in the relaxation area or right next to it, so that you can relax in it at any time without running away from the rest of the household. There is usually a lot of space in the garden and it seems that finding a place for a hammock should not be a problem, unfortunately this is not always the case. If there are large trees around the house at the right distance from each other, there is no problem, just an assembly kit and you're done. However, if there is a shortage of trees, a hammock stand will be necessary, the price of which, unfortunately, often exceeds the price of the hammock itself. However, there are big advantages to such a solution. First of all, the stand will serve for many years and will certainly "outlive" more than one hammock, so it is often a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. Secondly, it can be moved anywhere in the garden, sheltered in the shade or used by the sun's rays. And thirdly, a hammock hung on a wooden stand looks phenomenal and exclusive, so it will be a perfect decoration and showcase of your home.

A little bit about hammock stands

There are different sizes available to suit the dimensions of the hammock, but we recommend that you consider buying a larger one so that you don't have to buy a new stand when you change to a larger hammock in the future. They are usually made of impregnated wood or steel and metal. Wooden ones are especially recommended because of their natural appearance and interesting shape. The steel ones are quick to disassemble and take up less space after packing, so they will be a good choice if you plan to transport the stand often. When deciding on a stand, you no longer need additional mounting accessories, because they have built-in suspension systems in the form of chains, hooks or carabiners. They should be placed on a relatively even surface so that they stand steadily and do not pose a threat to safety. They are resistant to weather conditions, they do not need to be hidden from the rain, but it is recommended to hide them in a dry place during the winter. In our store, you can find stands alone or complete with a hammock. When deciding on a set, you don't have to worry about something not fitting, all of them are carefully selected by the manufacturers. If you buy a hammock and a stand separately, it is worth using the tips on the minimum installation length when choosing. We try to verify all orders, so don't worry, if you choose the wrong hammock for the stand, we will contact you and help you choose the right one.

Hammock suspension on the go

Outdoor hammocks are becoming more and more popular, during trips outside the city or long trips of a few weeks, they act as a bed to sleep or a comfortable place for a short rest. When traveling or camping, the only place where we can hang a hammock is the space between two trees, very rarely you will be able to find other suitable structures in the field. So, if you only have trees at your disposal, you need to choose two that are perfect for this. The tree should be healthy and well-rooted, so as not to destroy it and expose itself to falling to the ground. The diameter of the trunk should be at least 30 cm, but an appropriate assessment should be made on the spot, depending on whether one or two people will be resting in the hammock. At least strong polypropylene ropes will be necessary for installation, but for greater convenience, we offer ready-made sets, in which, in addition to the ropes, there are also accessories for quick adjustment or straps to protect the bark of the tree.

Hammocks and hammock chairs are sold without mounting accessories, the reason is mainly the fact that manufacturers are not able to predict where they will be mounted, and the accessories differ from each other depending on the place of suspension. The exception are the travel hammocks from the Colibri series, which have the necessary elements in the set.

Below is a list and a brief description of the hammock suspension kits available in our store.
